The Ninth Karmapa, Wangchug Dordje, was born in the Tréshod region in Eastern Tibet. Immediately after his birth, he sat up and said, “I am the Karmapa!” Not surprisingly, this caused a lot of talk in the area, and over time rumors reached Kyamo Nangtso Chöking Tashé, to whom Karmapa Mi kyö Dordje—his teacher—predicted that he would serve him again in a new incarnation. After Wangchug Dordje received the full Kagyu transmission, he began traveling and teaching throughout Tibet.
