In the series “Exclusive Classics,” three collections by Akutagawa have been released: “Rashomon’s Gate,” “In the Land of Water,” and “A Conversation with the God of Wandering.” But his body of work is so vast and multifaceted that these collections include only a small part of his stories. The new collection includes not only well-known tales such as “Madonna in Black,” “The Death of a Christian,” “The Testimony of Ogata Rōsai,” “The Crime of Sanemon,” and “The Girl Ito’s Evidence,” but also several dozen other prose gems by the great Japanese master.
