“Theatre People” are the memoirs of Vladimir Alekseevich Gilyarovsky, a Russian writer, poet, and journalist.
“Theatre People” is not a study. It’s simply memories of those I met when I myself was still a person of the theatre. Or rather, it’s a description of my theatrical wanderings—remembering which I feel younger by half a century. I tell it to my attentive listeners during hours of intimate conversation, and I can see that I’m giving them pleasure—and myself double.
Then I write it down almost in the same words I told it.
In these stories and records, there is no invention (I’ve seen so many interesting things in life). I just take people, events, scenes as I remember them, and present them in full integrity, without any sauces and garnishes.
