Love

Angela Carter can be called a modern classic of foreign literature. She made the list of “50 best British writers of the second half of the 20th century” by The Times and has received many literary awards, including the Somerset Maugham Prize.

“Love” is a story about an atypical family at the end of the 1960s, about a destructive love triangle described with surgical precision. One can say for sure: no one feels the pulse of time as Carter does. When the whole world wanted to “make love, not war,” three people waged an emotional struggle with themselves and with each other. Lee, his wife Annabel, and Lee’s brother Buzz live in their own world, which has nothing to do with reality—their sealed existence is filled with drugs, sex, and alcohol. In their attempts to satisfy their emotional hunger, they don’t realize that they are devouring one another.
