The book by Yulian Semyonov is devoted primarily to the search for cultural treasures (in particular, the Amber Room from Catherine’s Palace in Pushkin) stolen by the Nazis during World War II. Following the trail of the Nazi looters, the author encounters neo-Nazism, the mafia, aggressive anti-communism, and racism in West Germany and other capitalist countries. However, his meetings with honest people inspire optimism—the belief that a broad movement for peace and social justice, for which reaction and imperialism will never be able to plunge humanity into a new military catastrophe, will prevail.
