Heine is considered the last poet of the “Romantic era” and at the same time its head. He made the conversational language capable of lyricism, raised the feuilleton and travel notes to the level of art, and gave the German language an elegance previously unknown. Composers Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner, Johannes Brahms, P. I. Tchaikovsky, and many others wrote songs to his poems.
