The great Spanish poet Federico García Lorca was born on June 5, 1898. On August 19, 1936, he was executed by Spanish fascists. “... Federico García Lorca was like a generous, kind magician—he absorbed and gave people joy of the world; he was a planet of happiness, joy of life. Naive and artistic, equally at home in the cosmic and the provincial, extraordinarily musical, a magnificent mime—shy and superstitious, beaming and cheerful. It was as if he had gathered into himself all ages of Spain, the entire flowering of people’s talent, everything that the Arab-Andalusian culture gave him...” (Pablo Neruda).
