February 1945. The senior lieutenant of the Air Force, Mikhail Devyatayev, faces death in the German camp Sachsenhausen. The brave pilot has repeatedly tried to escape, but every time unsuccessfully. By chance, he manages to change his status from a death sentence prisoner to a disciplinary prisoner—and then he ends up in a concentration camp on Usedom Island in the Baltic Sea. That is exactly where the Nazis conduct secret work on creating “weapons of retribution.” Mikhail realizes he must, at any cost, inform his people about this. But how?
