Jacob's Ladder

“Jakob’s Ladder” is a parable novel, a strangely branched family chronicle with many characters and a finely constructed plot. At the center are the parallel lives of Yakov Osetsky, a man of books and an intellectual born at the end of the 19th century, and his granddaughter Nora, a theater designer—an independent, energetic person. Their “meeting” happens at the beginning of the 21st century, when Nora reads Yakov’s correspondence with his grandmother Maria and discovers, in the KGB archives, access to his personal file… The novel is based on letters from the author’s personal archive.
