Lecture 'Fifty. An Evening of Creative Works'

For the first year not the lecture series “Pryamaya rech” has been hosting creative evenings of Dmitry Bykov on 20 December—the day of his birth. On 20 December 2017, the poet, writer, and educator turns fifty, and, according to established tradition, at that evening he reads both new and long-beloved lyric poems, as well as amusing passages from his fresh and earlier prose.

“Fifty years—perhaps not the most joyful milestone: strictly speaking, there’s already less ahead. But it is a reason to be proud—under all circumstances, both external and internal, Dmitry Bykov might well have not reached this date. However, he did, and this says a lot about him and about the country. He managed to write and to tell some things, and there is a feeling that without him you would not have heard them. Of course, this is not a time to sum things up—rather, it is an opportunity to come together and look at one another with gratitude.”
