Lecture: On the Moomins and Karlsson

Dear little friends! First of all, these words are for parents, but we will also be very happy to have children who are interested in it.

We want to talk about two great fairy-tale universes: the tiny house on the roof where Karlson lives, and the Mumidale, the home of the Moomin-trolls.

They say that all children can be divided into two groups—according to what criterion, as everyone knows, no one can really remember anymore. If we take it seriously, though, one group is closer to the world of Karlson: mischievous, rebellious, not quite cozy, populated by policemen, reporters, and crooks—the world of Astrid Lindgren. The other is the world of quiet warmth, love, and gentle sadness, the world of wandering in solitude and little dreamers—the world of Tove Jansson.

These two realities—Lindgren’s and Jansson’s—really do seem to be arguing with each other, but that doesn’t prevent you from loving both just as much. That is exactly what we will talk about: Karlson and the Moomins. Come along!
