We often say phrases like “Be a good boy” or “Be a good girl” without thinking about what they mean for our children. Parents want their child to behave the way it seems convenient and right from their point of view. But on the other hand, they also want the children in the future to be able not only to follow instructions, but to make decisions independently and take responsibility for their actions. The ability to foresee different scenarios of events and to create one’s own system of values is the goal of upbringing. The concepts of “conscience,” “morality,” and “norm” include an entire complex of ideas and actions that must be taught. How this can be done will be discussed in a lecture by Lyudmila Petranovskaya.
