Lecture: The Brain at Its Limit

Lecture: The Brain at Its Limit

2 hrs. 4 min.
Description
Human brain, obviously, can process enormous amounts of information. In many areas of activity it surpasses artificial intelligence systems by far. However, doctors and scientists increasingly say that in the age of digital and multimedia technologies the brain is extremely overloaded with information flows and… can no longer do its job effectively.

Is that really true? Let’s find out from a lecture by Moscow State University professor Aleksandr Kaplan, a psychophysiologist specializing in studying the human brain and its mental functions.

— Which specific mechanisms of the brain limit its productivity?
— How does the brain perceive the external world?
— Are there prospects for successful adaptation of the human mind in the digital world? Will this world become a constant stress for a person?
— What is this stress and how can we cope with it? Can we notice the first signs of stress states to help ourselves?
— What does science say about the consequences of information loads of the 21st century for our intelligence?

The lecture will be useful for everyone who wants to understand how their brain works, learn how to cope with information stress, and increase their productivity in the era of digital technologies.

Aleksandr Kaplan is a psychophysiologist, Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor, head of the laboratory in neurophysiology and neurocomputer interfaces at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Winner of the Russian Government Prize in the field of science and technology (2002). Winner of the M.V. Lomonosov Prize for a cycle of works on neurointerfaces (MSU’s highest award, 2020). A regular speaker of the “Direct Speech” lecture series.
