Modern thinking increasingly encounters a paradox: it turns out that our actions and decisions aren’t always the result of our conscious choice, but often depend on the work of the brain, which, in essence, acts on its own. Professor in neurolinguistics Tatyana Chernigovskaya raises questions that by themselves may never come to our minds, prompting us to treat our brain with respect and attention. Research shows that many of our actions are determined by brain activity. Comparing the complexity of the brain with the person in which it resides, Chernigovskaya notes that the brain is millions of times more complex. It itself decides which line of behavior to choose in different situations. This leads to questions about the boundaries of our «self»: if the brain makes decisions, what is left of us? These and other questions that can change your understanding of the brain and our essence will be discussed in the lecture «The Brain and Free Will».
