Quileute Legends

Quiletes are a North American indigenous tribe living in the reservation of the same name in the west of the Olympic Peninsula, in Washington State, USA. Their mythological consciousness was formed over millennia under harsh conditions of tropical rainforests on the ocean’s shore, which served them both as a source of food and as the main threat to life. Not surprisingly, at the core of the body of legends that has come down to us lies, first and foremost, a struggle—with the forces of nature, with dark sorcery, and with one’s own animal nature.
