Legends of Crimea

Niyandr Aleksandrovich Marx (1861–1921) was a lieutenant general in the Imperial Army, an archaeologist, and a folklorist. For the first time, “Legends of Crimea” were printed in the newspaper “Utro Rossii” in 1912 and 1913. Crimea was the writer’s ancestral home. Nearby, near Karadag, in Otuz, stood the house of his ancestors. With every ravine and every mountain peak are connected tales passed from mouth to mouth and carefully preserved by local residents. The collection will immerse the reader in the amazing world of Crimean folklore, unique culture, and the traditions of the peninsula.

The book also includes an article by Maximilian Voloshin about the author—“A Traveler Across Universes. The Case of N. Marx.”
