Young student Gunnar Hede lives in a state of constant dreams and carefree idleness. He has completely abandoned his studies at the university and spends all his time only playing the violin. He doesn’t worry about his future because he is sure that his family estate, Munkhuyttan, will always be a reliable stronghold, guaranteeing an easy life. Unexpectedly, Hede learns that the estate is in danger of ruin, and the young man decides to save the family nest at any cost. He gives up his dream of becoming a musician and sets off to wander, selling his meager goods in peasant villages. Ahead of him await many trials, hardships, and fateful meetings—one of which will help him become himself again.
