“Lady Susan” is a novel in letters about the life of the fashionable beauty Lady Susan—a duplicitous and willful woman. She has many worries: not to let the last remnants of her dignity slip in the eyes of high society, and to arrange for her daughter Frederica a successful marriage. The characters in the novel both love and hate, suffer from jealousy, and scheme. The collection also includes two more novels: “Love and Friendship” and “Leslie Castle.” “Leslie Castle” is a witty parody of the clichés of “gothic” and “early romantic” prose.
