A Lamp in the Window—by the will of fate, on one of those dreary autumn evenings, a lonely traveler knocks at the old house lost somewhere deep in the woods. The door is opened by a kind-looking elderly woman who offers the young man a modest dinner and a place to stay. But they say the morning after is wiser than the evening, because the very next day the man learns something that makes him want to flee from this hospitable home without looking back.
