This book publishes the famous novel “Sonnika the Courtesan,” telling about the siege in 219 BC of the Iberian city of Saguntum by the Carthaginian commander Hannibal. At that time Saguntum had become a Roman colony. Hannibal decides to restore Saguntum to Carthage’s control at any cost, even if he has to destroy the city. The heroic defense and fall of Saguntum became the reason for the outbreak of the Second Punic War. At the center of the novel is the love story of the beauty Sonnika, who went from a port courtesan to a wealthy and respected owner of ships and slaves, and of the Greek mercenary Athenion (Actaeon).
