The book by the well-known Japanese writer Seiji Morimura tells of the terrible creation of Japanese militarism—the “Unit 731,” in which, from the early 1940s to August 1945, bacteriological weapons were developed, produced, and used. Numerous experiments were carried out on living people for that purpose within the unit. After the end of the Second World War, the killers from “Unit 731” found refuge in the United States Army, which adopted their criminal expertise.
