The Kreutzer Sonata

In 1890, Leo Tolstoy published a novella that was immediately censored by the Tsarist authorities. The book describes an ideal of abstinence and tells, in the first person, about anger and jealousy. The title of the novella was inspired by Sonata No. 9 for violin and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven, dedicated to Rodolphe Kreutzer.
