"Red and Black" is a novel by the French writer Stendhal. The action takes place in the 1820s in France. At the center is the fate of a young man, Julien Sorel, whose attractiveness and charm carried him from provincial obscurity into the high society of France. “Red” is the officer’s career; “black” is the path of the priest. Both of these roads were opened to him thanks to the patronage of women. But in an instant, everything changed: a forgotten love called him back again.
