A monograph on the work of Konstantin Simonov was written by Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor L. Fink, author of works on Soviet literature and its leading masters. In this monograph, for the first time in our literary studies, the poetry, prose, and drama of K. Simonov are considered in full, in their close interconnection. L. Fink defines K. Simonov as an interpreter of the fates, worldview, and character of that generation, for whom the Great Patriotic War was the main event in life—four years of war determined all forty years of K. Simonov’s literary activity. L. Fink shows that all of Simonov’s pre-war work was a premonition of war and preparation for it, while his post-war writing became a reflection on the past war, culminating in the trilogy “Living and the Dead,” which received the Lenin Prize.
