Childhood's End

Almost right at the finish line of the race for space exploration—when the USSR and the USA were still pushing forward—alien ships arrive on Earth. They call themselves the Overlords, and from that moment the road to space for humankind is closed. Not because of a ban—no. It’s just that Earthlings are not yet developed enough to adequately perceive open space. But in exchange the Overlords turn Earth into a real paradise: people are no longer threatened by wars, diseases, or hunger; everyone can do what they want and love, without worrying about tomorrow. And only over two questions torment the most inquisitive minds: where should people go now, and why are the Overlords doing all this? The answer will come sooner or later—but will it bring joy to people?
