Description
Two writers: Pierre Bouleau (1906–1989) and Pierre Arraut (1908–1998), who hid behind the pseudonym Thomas Narcejac—in memory of a boy and his fishing on the river near the village of Toma Narcejac—one fine day agreed to co-author. Their literary “tandem” lasted almost forty years and turned out to be surprisingly fruitful. From the pen of the newly minted author, novels, novellas, stories, plays, and screenplays for film and television appeared as if from a horn of plenty, as well as scholarly investigations into the history and theory of the detective genre. In addition, beyond the creative partnership between the co-authors, over the years grew a sense of friendship and mutual admiration. Thus, the two writers—who individually had already earned respect and laurels—became not only co-authors, but rather fellow writers, and their combined name Bouleau–Narcejac increasingly signified a mark of literary quality, which eventually brought them worldwide fame. So, the happy union of talents and labor served the mutual creative enrichment of two remarkable writers.
