When Nietzsche Wept

Irvin Yalom, author of many bestsellers, presents to you an exciting mixture of fact and fiction: a drama about love, fate, and will unfolding against the backdrop of the intellectual ferment of nineteenth-century Vienna, on the eve of the birth of psychoanalysis. An extraordinary patient… a talented healer tormented by suffering… a secret agreement. The combination of these elements gives rise to an unforgettable saga of what seems to have been the relationship between Europe’s greatest philosopher (F. Nietzsche) and one of the founders of psychoanalysis (J. Breuer). Yalom draws not only in Nietzsche and Breuer, but also Lou Salomé, “Anna O.,” and the young medical intern Sigmund Freud.
