When you’re seventeen, and the country is in ruin and famine, it’s hard to believe the gypsy woman’s prophecy: “A millionaire will love you.” But the young Bohdana believes it and goes abroad to find her happiness. She gets a job as a maid in a wealthy Italian family. A well-off young man calls for her. However, very soon the beautiful fairy tale turns into a nightmare. Bohdana is rejected and denied the chance to communicate with the one she loves—but she isn’t going to give up. New countries, amazing men, unusual professions appear in her life—and finally happiness—right there, close at hand. But do fairy-tale endings happen in modern Russia?
