For all fans of historical novels!
About the most mysterious page of Russian history. About the fate of Princess Tараканова—the beauty adventuress, the last of the House of Romanov.
Under the surname Tarakanova, two princesses are known in our history. One of them is presumably born of a secret marriage between Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and Alexei Razumovsky, brought to the Moscow Ivanovsky Monastery, where, tonsured under the name Dositheia, she lived in complete seclusion until the very end of her life. The other was an impostor, a flirt and an adventurer—she called herself Pugachev’s sister, the heiress to the Russian throne, spoke about her descent from Elizabeth Petrovna, and even claimed to present a fictional spiritual will of the empress. Her life more than once became the subject for novelists, including Grigory Petrovich Danilevsky.
The story of the life and death of the most famous adventuress of the eighteenth century is taken from the diary of a sailor, Lieutenant Pavel Kontsov. A sincere patriot of his homeland, against his will he was drawn into court games whose goal was the destruction of Princess Tarakanova.
