Charlotte Ridberg, owner of a small business in the south of Sweden, goes to London because a relative she has never seen left her an entire house with a bookstore on the ground floor as an inheritance. Charlotte isn’t particularly interested in books, but she decides to stay in London and keep the business afloat—she likes both the old house and the people who work in the shop, and the new neighbor William.
And for Charlotte, it’s also a chance to learn more about her father and the previous owner of the bookstore—how they are connected to the troubles that swept across the country decades ago and are mentioned so often in the letters stored in the house.
