“The Book of Life and Practice of Dying” is a work by Sogyal Rinpoche, in which he compares the ancient teachings of Tibetan Buddhism about death and near-death experiences with modern scientific views, and also provides practical recommendations for preparing each person psychologically for their own death and for medical care of those who are terminally ill and dying. The author, holding a high rank in the spiritual hierarchy of Tibetan Buddhism and educated both in India and in the West, lived and worked for a long time in developed countries. This circumstance allowed him to present Eastern spiritual teachings in a form easily accessible to Western readers (unlike the widely known and difficult-to-understand Tibetan Book of the Dead).
