Christine de Pizan gained recognition as the first feminist writer. In her work “The Book of the City of Ladies,” written in 1405, she defends women by fighting disparaging myths and stereotypes about them. In the work, allegorical figures of Reason, Rectitude, and Justice appear to her—helping her with her mission. Together with them, she strives to show the world the merits and significance of women in society and culture. Now fully translated into Russian with commentary, this work reflects the pursuit of justice and respect for human dignity—still relevant today.
