Louis Creed had no idea what moving into a new house would mean for him and his family. Until then, he had never even heard of the Wendigo — the sinister spirit of Native American legends. And he certainly had no inkling that near this house there was a pet cemetery. However, he would very soon regret his ignorance…
An idyllic beginning — the main character moves with his wife and son to a new place and gets acquainted with an older neighbor who gradually becomes like a second father to him. Behind the house there is a vacant lot, farther on — a pet cemetery, and even farther — some ancient Indian burial ground that no one really knows much about. Everything goes wonderfully until one fine day the family cat, whom the hero’s son loves very much, is run over by a car. He suspects that the boy may be terribly upset by the cat’s death, and when he tells the neighbor about it, the neighbor takes him to that Indian burial ground, where they bury the cat. The next day the cat comes home as if nothing had happened, only its character becomes much gloomier and more aggressive than before. In short, bury the dead — and it comes back to you alive. That, simply put, is what this Indian burial does. And everything went more or less normally until the hero’s son was killed under the wheels as well…
