The Whale Swims North

The Whale Swims North

1 hr. 42 min.
Description
This magical novella tells about the ocean and the islands living in it, about peculiar birds, fish, and animals—and, of course, about the mysterious northern people: the Aleuts. It might seem that real Aleut folklore is woven into the narrative. In fact, the author skillfully recreates—reimagines—Aleut legends, from which they have no own epic or myths. This romantic and wise fairy tale is layered in meaning. Listeners can look forward to an exciting plot about the journey of a small mammal, Mamoru, who sails on a whale in search of his island, and other wonderful, unique characters. They will especially appeal to children. A teenager will see much more here: themes of purpose, love, and belief in one’s own strength will resonate. And adults, too, will find food for thought and for the heart.

For the book “The Whale Is Sailing North,” Anastasia Strokina became a diploma holder of the Vladislav Krapivin prize; the novella also won the “Bookuru” prize.
