The autobiographical trilogy “From Lark Rise to Candleford” is a nostalgic ode to life in provincial England of the Victorian era—told through the voice of Laura, a girl who grew up in the village of Lark Rise in the north of Oxfordshire and, even as a teenager, found work at the local post office in the nearby town of Candleford Green.
