The works of Václav Mihaĺsky have been translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and others. His harsh irony and sharp eye have long made his name noticeable. Despite the censorship barriers of past decades, the writer managed to say everything about his time—about Stalinist repressions, about the surrounding lies about the essence of things in history, and about how characters and destinies break under the pressure of those lies. That’s why his stories have not lost their liveliness even today, when many works of the 70s–80s that were once considered sharp and topical have suddenly grown old overnight.
