Carlos Castaneda can be counted among the greatest mysteries of the 20th century. What is reliably known about him is only this: he’s the author of ten bestselling books and the founder of the company “Cleargreen,” which now holds the rights to Castaneda’s creative legacy. Everything else is no more than conjecture—if not outright speculation.
Castaneda carefully preserved the “mystery of his identity,” practically never gave interviews, and categorically refused to be photographed (though, by a twist of circumstances, a few photos of Castaneda still exist).
He even denied ever being married.
Each time, Carlos would with relish invent a new homeland, new parents, and so on. Apparently, it was simply something he enjoyed—like how a child enjoys saying that his father is an astronaut.
This book is the first attempt in Russian to thoroughly figure out who one of the most mysterious people of the 20th century really was.
