Senior investigator on especially important cases of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Colonel Oleg Konstantinovich Yermilov, takes on the investigation of yet another corruption scandal in which a high-ranking official from Russia’s trade representation at the embassy in Cyprus—Yuri Leonidovich Dedov—is involved. A model family man, father of two children, who in the not-so-distant past was party secretary of the Plekhanov Institute, then a senior specialist at the trade representation in Portugal, and finally trade representative in Cyprus. He made such a dizzying leap up the career ladder that, willy-nilly, the conclusion suggested itself that some influential person had helped him—supporting his advancement. Owner of several elite mansions not only in Russia, but also beyond its borders. Obviously, the trade representative’s salary could hardly have been enough for all these expensive acquisitions. The corruption component is there for all to see. But how do you get close to Dedov when any attempt—even hints—about this topic meets a fierce resistance at the very highest level? Still, retribution comes sooner or later. And avoiding it won’t be helped by big money, fame, or connections. It has long been known that strength lies in the truth. Now Oleg Yermilov must prove this in a difficult struggle for justice and fairness—defending the honor and interests of his country.
