The “Ardis” audio studio presents an adventure-historical novel by Alexandre Dumas, “Captain Paul,” written with the collaboration of Adrien Doce and published in 1838 in the newspaper Le Siècle. At the heart of its plot is the romantic version of the origins of American admiral John Paul Jones. The novel was a great success with readers: within the three weeks during which it was printed, the newspaper gained five thousand subscribers. From that moment, Dumas was considered one of the best French authors writing in the genre of the feuilleton novel—i.e., a novel printed issue by issue. He showed his skill at intriguing readers and making them wait for the next chapter.
