Fet is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable Russian poets. He found true, lasting beauty in nature, in art, and, of course, in love. In his poetry, he strove to go as far away from reality as possible, to immerse himself in contemplation of eternal beauty, untouched by the bustle, worries, and bitterness of everyday life. Fet’s poetic memory had no bounds, which allowed him, even in later years, to write poems about first love—as though he were still under the impression of a recent meeting.
