In his new novel, Alexey Polyarinov tells the story of a world struck by catastrophe, as a result of which frozen figures of dead children appeared—called cadavers. The main characters set out on an expedition to study these mysterious anomalies. During their journey, they have to face how the presence of the dead has changed the lives of the living—and how people have adapted to coexisting with them. The author depicts the long, painful end of the world, when people get used to the apocalypse and live with it for years. The novel makes the reader think about which side he is on in this world and conjures images of history that are hard to forget.
