Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904) is the famous Russian writer and playwright.

Born in Taganrog. In 1879–1884 he studied in the medical faculty of Moscow University. In 1880, Chekhov’s first publication “A Letter from a Don Landowner Stepan Vladimirovich N. to the Scientific Neighbor, Dr. Friedrich” appeared in the weekly magazine “Strekoza” (“Dragonfly”). From that time onward, he began publishing actively in various periodicals. In 1888, Chekhov was awarded the academic Pushkin Prize for the collection “In the Twilight.”

Among the author’s best-known works: “The Steppe” (1888), “A Dreary Story” (1888), “The Duel” (1890–1891), “Ward No. 6” (1892), “The Story of an Unknown Man” (1892), “The Peasants” (1897), “A Man in a Case” (1898), “In the Ravine” (1899), “Children” (1886), “A Drama at Hunting” (1884), “The Black Monk” (1893), and many others.
