We present to your attention a collection of novellas by the French writer Guy de Maupassant (1850–1893), published in 1884 by Victor Havard. Most of these novellas were previously published in the newspapers “Le Gaulois” and “Gil Blas,” and Maupassant used the pen name Maufrigneuse (the name of a frivolous and carefree duchess from Balzac’s “Human Comedy”).
