A production by Oleg Efremov at the Moscow Art Academic Theatre, based on the play of the same name by A. P. Chekhov.
Chekhov himself wrote about the strange success of his play: he had “fatigue and a feeling of annoyance. It’s unpleasant, although the play had a solid success… Theater people say that they had never seen in the theatre such stirring, such universal applause and heckling, and never at any other time had they heard so many arguments, such as they saw and heard on my play.”
