Description
Josephus Flavius (whose real name was Joseph ben Mattathias, and who received the name Flavius from the Roman imperial Flavian house that patronized him) was the foremost Jewish historian of the 1st century and belongs among the writers of classical antiquity whose names are not destined to be erased from the tablets of history.

"The Jewish War" is the most detailed source on the history of the Jewish and Roman peoples from biblical times to the destruction of the Second Temple. The book sheds light on political movements and everyday aspects of the lives of peoples about whom other literary monuments are either silent or describe them in an obviously distorted, implausible manner. As a participant in that fateful war, Josephus Flavius recounts it from vivid personal impressions: thanks to the clear, brilliant style of his narrative, the events seem to come alive before our eyes.
