Each new nervous system circuit that `turns on` at certain stages of evolution teaches us something new.

This is precisely the meaning of the ancient Sufi parable in which Mulla Nasreddin, a wise man who always pretends to be a clown, rides through the city on a donkey.

`Where are you in such a hurry to go, Nasreddin?` his neighbors ask.

`I’m looking for my donkey!` he answers.

At a certain stage of development, everyone understands this joke within a joke differently. From our perspective, the donkey here represents “magical techniques,” “secret knowledge,” the alchemical `Elixir`, or the great `philosopher’s stone` that brings wisdom to the adept. We search for it everywhere, moving on it. That is our nervous system.
