The Truth of Sufis

Sufism is experimenting to achieve a specific experience. It is a path not of belief, but of knowledge, of lived experience. It is existential. Experience of what? Experience of oneself. This is not thinking for the sake of thinking. It has a methodology that leads to the grandest of all experiences—call it God, nirvana, moksha, liberation, or whatever you like; it is the grandest experience of all. And without this experience, no one ever feels any satisfaction, no one can feel it. We are meant to achieve this experience. That is our potential: it must be realized. That is our seed: it must bloom in all colors and fragrance. And until the seed becomes a flower, we will remain restless, constrained, thirsty for something—without knowing exactly what—groping, searching, moving forward.

Human beings remain groping and searching, and the search ends only with God—and in no other way. What is God? It is the experience of your own deepest core. God is not somewhere “out there”! God is here, inside your heart—pulsing, breathing, aware. God is very close.
