The Test

During the celebration of Colonel Nikolai Petrovich Gremin’s name day, the culprit makes an unusual request to his longtime friend, Major Strelinsky. He asks his friend to go to St. Petersburg and make sure that his beloved Alina—whom they vowed to love forever three years ago—still feels strong affection for Gremin and remains faithful to the promises made.
