Confession of a 'Maniac's' Daughter

Two Arbat streets — Old and New, and between them — “Prague.” A building whose walls have absorbed an entire era: from musty taverns to the gleaming Soviet years, when it was right here that gastronomic legends were born — the “Prague” cakes and “Swan’s Milk.” Now the facade is peeling, the windows are boarded up, and inside — a dead silence… or just its convincing mask?

Every New Year something strange happens here. Light seeps through the cracks. Shadows slip away quietly through the side entrance.

Who would dare cross the threshold of a closed restaurant at night, when the city freezes under the chimes of the New Year?

The answer will have to be sought by those whom life would never have brought together—if not for “Prague”: a very young girl, a spoiled young major, an elderly clown, a warrior woman, and a swimmer who has long been unable to walk. They were sure they were going only to a secret New Year’s ball, but in reality they became pieces in a terrifying game that has been going on behind these doors for 155 years.
