Alexander Milyonikov (August 24, 1929, Leningrad — February 3, 2003) was a Soviet and Russian historian. Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (1999). From service staff. In 1952 he graduated from the Law Faculty of Leningrad State University, where under the supervision of I. I. Yakovkin he specialized in the history of medieval Slavic law. He also attended lectures in the history and philology faculties. After graduating from university, he worked for over 20 years at the State Public Library. In 1962–1973 he was the head of the Manuscripts Department. Milyonikov’s scientific activity covered problems of the history of culture, public thought, and book printing in Slavic countries—especially the Czech lands—in the XVIII–XIX centuries. In 1958 he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences: “Czech political and historical thought in the bibliographic works of Czech scholars and publicists (20–40s of the 19th century).” Many of his works are devoted to studying manuscript collections kept in Leningrad. In 1972 he defended his doctoral dissertation: “The emergence of national educational ideology in the Czech lands in the 18th century.” Since 1973, A. S. Milyonikov worked at the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences (senior researcher, head of the department). Since 1992 he has been the director of the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography named after Peter the Great.
